About Madison

As an avid collaborator, soloist, and pedagogue, Madison Helton-Brown is passionate about a holistic and inclusive approach to music making.

Ms. Brown has enjoyed performing at venues across the United States and Europe, from the Aspen Music Festival to Carnegie Hall. As a soloist, Ms.Helton-Brown has received awards from the Des Moines Women’s Club, MTNA Young Artist Competitions, the Iowa State University Concerto Competition, and the Northwestern University Viola Prize Competition. She is an experienced orchestral and chamber performer, having played with numerous groups in the Midwest and Washington. Her dream is to be able to continue to make meaningful music, and impact the next generation of musicians while contributing to the evolution of the music industry.

Madison is the recipient of a Bachelors of Viola Performance from Iowa State University, and a Masters of Music from Northwestern University Bienen School of Music in Evanston, Illinois. Teachers include Borojov Martinic-Jercic, Helen Callus, Li-Kuo Chang, Carol Cook, Marlene Bachelder, and many others.

As an educator, Madison has worked as a conductor, private teacher, large ensemble coach, and clinician. She is a Suzuki Certified Pedagogue, and is passionate about being a life-long learner. She enjoys sharing the joy, discipline, and self-discovery that learning music can bring with her students. Teaching influences include Mimi Zweig of Indiana University, Marlene Bachelder of BYU University, and all her previous teachers.

She spends her free time reading, horseback riding, cooking, and getting lost in nature with her friends and family.
